The page contains all the latest updates concerning any changes that have been made to procedures at the Languages Centre Bremen due to the Corona virus crisis.

The staff members of the language centre are in 'emergency operation mode' at the university. We ask that you do not come by our offices in person - especially so as to prevent the further spread of the virus.


All course offered by the SZHB in the summer semester 2021 will be online courses.

Teaching starts in the week commencing April 12, 2021.

Access to our learning platforms

  • On registering for the course you wish to take, you will be notified in good time about the learning platform that will be used in the course.
  • 3-4 days before the course is due to start, you will receive an email telling you how to access this learning platform and the course you have booked.

Please take the time to have a look at this important and useful information about how the online teaching at the SZHB will be conducted.


It is currently not possible to pick up your certificates or course records in person.

If you need your certificate or course record, please write us an email at, and be sure to include the following information:   

  • Last name, first name
  • Semester during which you took the language course
  • Name of the course (or at least which language, and which level) / if possible also list the course number
  • Your postal mailing address (very important!)

Please note that due to limited staff capacity at the university right now there may be a delay in sending your certificate to you.

You must take a placement test before you select and register for an English course.

Placement testing for other languages

We recommend the DIALANG Test as a placement test for other languages that you can complete from home.

It is available for the following languages: Danish, German, English, Finnish, French, Greek, Irish, Iclandic, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Portugese, Swedish and Spanish.

Centres for independent language learning/Tandem programme

All our centres for independent language learning at all our universities are closed until further notice.

We are now offering a range  of virtual options to help you with your independent study: language caf├ęs, English grammar tutorials, Campus cinema

And we have also reopened our Tandem programme.
