There are a number of resources for supporting students to develop academic writing and reading skills. However, there are fewer that focus on preparing students to take part in seminars or discussions.  Using a dialogic framework, this workshop will explore ways in which students can be supported to contribute their ideas.  Data from the BASE corpus will be used to examine tutors’ approaches to questioning and responding and to explore how these skills could be improved.
