Language certificates at the Instituto Cervantes in Bremen

This test is offered for prospective students of Spanish/Spanish Studies and for those who are not studying Romance languages (it is also possible to take an A2 language test on the same date). The language level required depends on the degree programme. Please find out beforehand from your prospective faculty or the Student Advisory Service at the University or University of Applied Sciences. The language certificate is valid solely for the the Universit and the universities of applied sciences in Bremen and Bremerhaven. If you intend to use the language certificate to apply to another university, please check there to see whether they will accept it.

  • Language level required: B1
  • Exam date: Monday, July 26, 2021, at the Instituto Cervantes Bremen
    Scheduled time 10:00 to 12:30, 30 min. break, oral exams scheduled from 13:00 (approx. 15 min.)
    Please bring your official ID card or passport to the exam.
    There will be an extra exam date on Tuesday, September 9, 2021 at the Instituto Cervantes Bremen for students who have subsequently been offered a re-allocated place.
    Scheduled time 10:00 to 12:30, 30 min. break, oral exams scheduled from 13:00 (approx. 15 min.)
    Please bring your official ID card or passport to the exam.

  • Fee: €40 (candidates who can prove they have registered for the DELE certificates are not required to pay this fee.)
  • Registration deadline: 1 week before the exam date at the latest by sending an email to the email address above
  • Results announced and certificates: around 3 days after the date of the exam
  • Candidates may withdraw from the exam up to 24 hours before it is due to take place. Under no circumstances is it possible to withdraw any later than this and have the exam fee reimbursed.


Written exam:

  • Reading comprehension: answer questions on informational texts (multiple choice questions). Select information from a text using a series of questions.
  • Written expression: write short texts with a simple structure and of a practical nature, e.g. write a note, postcard, etc. (80-100 words).
  • Listening comprehension: the candidates hear 4 recorded exercises consisting of simple dialogues or information and have to answer multiple choice questions about these texts.
  • Grammar and vocabulary: match different statements to the correct situations. Identify words or expressions which do not fit the context of the text. Complete a gap-fill text (multiple choice).

Oral exam:

The candidate takes part in a short dialog with the examiner which deals with an everyday situation. They will also have to briefly explain their motivation for wanting to study.

Unless your Abitur certificate expressly states the language level you have achieved, it is not possible to demonstrate foreign language competence of B2 level or higher as per the European Framework of Reference for Languages by virtue of the length of time you have studied the language in school.
