What is so special about Latin?

Level 1 and Level 2 form a module, which will lead you to the intermediate Latin certificate or 'Kleines Latinum'. You can supplement this module with a special preparatory course, which will take place during the semester break after the summer semester if there is sufficient demand.

The level 1 and level 2 courses take place during the semester. These are very intensive combined courses. In other words,  the number of lessons with your teacher compared to the lessons without a teacher is small. You have to work autonomously to pass the exam. Your teacher will introduce you to the topics of the lessons, will advise you and supervise your learning process. But you have to organise more time for your learning. The advantage is that you can achieve the intermediate Latin certificate in two semesters and can organise your time on your own. Our advice: create small learning groups, where you can help and motivate each other.

The Latin courses build on each other. The learning outcome isn't measured in terms of the descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference. The aim of the courses is to pass the exam for the intermediate Latin certificate, which especially involves translation skills. Furthermore, you will learn about the Roman Empire and the development of the Latin language.

IMPORTANT: You will get the credit points only if you pass the exam at the end.

Those who already have some knowledge of Latin and all who are interested in Latin but don’t want to take an exam are cordially invited to come. We will pleased to give you some advice. Please send an email to Dr. Astrid Buschmann-Göbels.
