The Language Centre (FZHB) provides language training for general, academic and special purposes for all four universities in the state of Bremen:

  • Bremen University
  • University of Applied Sciences Bremen
  • University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven
  • University of the Arts Bremen

Information about the English courses

Which English course you choose depends on your current level of English, your academic requirements and how much time you have.

Below you find the most important information, please note that the links provide information in German.

The "Beratungsteam Englisch" gives personal advice on all courses and exams concering English.

Basic courses

If you simply want to improve your overall level of English or if you need to reach a certain standard of general English for your course of study. Courses are offerend from level A2.2 to B1.2. Further information

English for Academic Purposes

If you want to improve your ability to cope with academic work in English, for example, to read scientific articles, to participate in academic discussions, to make academic presentations. or to write an academic paper in English. Courses are offerend at B2 and C1 level. Further information

English for Specific Purposes

If you are doing a course of study which requires a great deal of academic work in English, check if there is a course specifically designed for you, for example, Englisch für Chemiker. Please note that there's usually a minimum level of English required for such courses. Further information

Exam Preparation

If you wish to prepare for an English Examination like the TOEFL, IELTS or the University's B2 and C1 Nachweis. Further information

Courses for Graduates

If you already have a good command of English and wish to improve your writing and presentation skills, these courses may be suitable for you. Please note that these courses are offerend from level B2.2 upwards. Further information

Intensive Courses

If you do not have the time to attenda regular English course during the semester, it may be possible to findthe same course offered as an intensive course during the semester break. Further Information

Tutor Programme

If you do not have the time to attend a regular or an intensive English course, or if you only want to improve a certain skill, you can choose the Selbstlern & Beratung package. At the moment it is only available for general English and exam preparation. It consists of autonomous learning and regular learning counselling by a qualified student tutor. Further information

The German courses are offered by the Goethe-Institut which cooperates with the FZHB.
